Wanted: Confirmation on shell identification from Nova Scotia
S. costata ranges from Eastern Canada to New Jersey. I have collected them in northern Massachusetts. Actually, my first thought when I saw these was that they were a species of Gari or Tagelus, in the family Sanguinolariidae (Gariidae). However, I don't know of any members of that group that range that far north, so I went with Siliqua. You can confirm this by looking at the interior of the shell. Siliqua has a sort of raised rib running across the interior of the shell, from the hinge area to the opposite side. If these don't have it, we'll have to take another look at Gariidae. --Last edited by Paul Monfils on 2010-08-10 00:59:03 --
