unidentified japanese shells

 Hello,

I hope somebody can help me with these miscellanous shells from Japan. They are from around Hiroshima and are rather small (between 20 and 40mm). I guess they are very common but I have nothing in my library to identify them. Thanks. Pierre. These are from Miyagima is. and those from Naoshima is. |

 Hello Pierre,

I did some research and this is what came up (besides of just the family identification as for the gastropods): Picture 1: 4: Coecella chinensis (Deshayes, 1855) 5: Tapes sp., probably Tapes belcheri (Sowerby, 1853) Picture 2: B: Fulvia mutica (Reeve, 1844) Â --Last edited by mikede on 2009-12-09 01:04:42 -- |

#2 Nassarius species #3 ? juvenile Modiolus species #4 Mactridae #5 ? Ruditapes philippinarum. They seem to have got everywhere else, I find them commonly here is Southern England! |
