Need ID (Gena varia ?)
Hi, can anybody ID this shell?
Is it a Gena varia?
<a href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/3167674" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.badongo.com/t/250/3167674.jpg" alt="http://www.badongo.com/t/250/3167674.jpg" style="border:0" /></a>
I got it in Zanzibar (Tanzania): it is about 1.5 cm in size.
Please need Latin and English names.
Many thanks in advance,
Giovanni

Not sure what trochid species it is, but it certainly is not in the genus Gena. Gena are open-coiled shells, resembling tiny Haliotis (without the holes).

Need ID (Gena varia ?)
Hi Dave, went so check and this specimen looks to me like an Infundibulops erythaeus (Red Sea Top Shell).
What do you think?
Thanks,
Giovanni

Could be a juvenile I suppose but the periphery seems too pronounced. I have several specimens of this shell but none have such a sharp edge.
