This is a land snail. It looks like a Drymaeus, perhaps Drymaeus virgulatus but I am not certain about the species.

This shell i founded beachcombing in yucatan , gulf of mexico.

Snails like this often live in grass just above high tide level. Â Because the shell is thin and lightweight, once it is empty it can easily be blown down onto the beach by wind. Â Also, land snails frequently live close to fresh water streams. If they fall in, they float, and can be carried downstream to the ocean and then wash ashore. I have seen a few Xenophora (carrier shells) that had a landsnail or at least a piece of a landsnail attached. Â <span class="petit">--Last edited by Paul Monfils on 2008-06-13 23:47:29 --</span>
