butterfly-shaped shell fragment
Can you help me identify the origin of butterfly-shaped shell fragments? Â Recently, I have found several with the same shape, so the shape isn't a fluke. Â They washed up on beaches in the Pacific Northwest. Â I have photos if I can figure out how to post them.
Thanks! |

Hi there, we really need pictures. You can find instructions on how to post them elsewhere on this website.

Sounds like shell plates from a chiton. Â These molluscs have 8 shell plates in a linear row down their back. Â The loose plates are common on beaches where such molluscs live.
