Can you help me identify the origin of butterfly-shaped shell fragments?  Recently, I have found several with the same shape, so the shape isn't a fluke.  They washed up on beaches in the Pacific Northwest.  I have photos if I can figure out how to post them.

Thanks!

Hi there, we really need pictures. You can find instructions on how to post them elsewhere on this website.
Cheers, Dave

Sounds like shell plates from a chiton.  These molluscs have 8 shell plates in a linear row down their back.  The loose plates are common on beaches where such molluscs live.
