An uncommon Cardiidae? Carditidae?
Dear All,
I recently found this bivalve beached on the West Coast of Mauritius (SW Indian Ocean) and could not identify it. It is 32mm long.
I started to go for a Plagiocardium, but it does not match P. setosum from this area. Perhaps a Venericardia from the Carditidae family?

Anybody can help?

Yes this is a Cardita, not a Cardium. I believe it may be Cardita bicolor Lamarck, 1819. I have similar Indian Ocean specimens but unfortunately many of my bivalves are still somewhat in disarray from my most recent move, and I can't put my hands on them for comparison at the moment. --Last edited by Paul Monfils on 2008-07-22 23:18:26 --

Thank you Paul,
Yes it should be Cardita bicolor. I found similar pictures of this specie on internet.
