Unidentified Cone Shells - knapperbill - 07-25-2009

Hi Folks! I'm new to this forum and would like to introduce myself, as well as ask help for identification of three shells. My name is Bill and I am a teacher who loves the outdoors, as well as collecting it's many wonders that I come across on my outings. An older gentleman who passed on left me his shell collection, which has many nice specimens in it. Unfortunately, he did not have any documentation of the pieces. I'm currently sifting through them and documenting what I can. The only places that I know he had collected some shells were Florida and the Dominican Republic. Anyway, I'm stuck on three shells, two of which are cone snails. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Bill. Welcome to the site. I fixed the link so it works. Your shells (L to R) are:

Conus generalis, western Pacific

Conus planorbis, western Pacific

Murex (Phyllonotus) pomum, Florida/Caribbean --Last edited by Paul Monfils on 2009-07-25 04:09:02 --

Thanks so much Paul and thanks for fixing my link. I'm sure I'll have a few more identity questions in the near future
