This appears to be a "frons oyster" or "coon oyster", scientific name Ostrea frons or Lopha frons, a common species from southern Florida south through the Caribbean. Â It lives attached to hard surfaces in shallow water, including wood, rocks, the stems of sea fans and sea whips, and the roots of mangroves. Â It is quite variable in shape, depending on what kind of surface it is growing on. Â --Last edited by Paul Monfils on 2009-04-19 02:49:24 --
