Busycon carica eliceans, Kiener's Whelk, ranges from North Carolina to Florida.  Value in prime condition $10.00 to $12.00, but this is clearly a worn and chipped beach specimen. Most non-collectors think of beach-collected shells as the norm. But serious collectors usually want live-collected specimens that have not been tossed around by the waves, ground down by the sand, and bleached by the sun.
