Identification help. Found in northern Oman.
Found this on a beach near Khasab, Oman. It is an abnormal shape compared to everything else I have seen in the region, and it is REALLY light compared to any other shell of it's size. You can see in the last image how thin it is based on the colour coming through it.
Can any of you help identify what species this was? Or at least what kind of animal lived in it? I am not into seashell collecting but this one was interesting enough for me to do some research. |

RE: Identification help. Found in northern Oman.
Hi Daniel,
this is the shell of an octopus from the family of "Argonauts" or "Paper nautiluses" (Argonautidae). I think the species is "Brown argonaut" (Argonauta hians), because this is the only species living in your area. Best wishes, Bence |

Your response is appreciated and sharing the species name is very helpful too. Thanks Bence!
