The few that are online just cover a localized area.  Also, while the sea star pictures on such sites can be useful, the sea urchin pics are not very useful because they almost always show the living animal, with the spines attached, while collectors are almost always trying to ID the test ("shell") with the spines removed.

There is a listserve for people interested in echinoderms, comparable to the Conch-L listserve for mollusc enthusiasts. They have helped me out a few times in the past.

<a href="http://www.lsoft.com/scrïpts/wl.exe?SL1=ECHINODERM-L&H=NIC.MUSEUM" target="_blank"><!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.lsoft.com/scr">http://www.lsoft.com/scr</a><!-- m -->ïpts/wl.exe?SL1=ECHINODERM-L&H=NIC.MUSEUM</a>

Hmmmm, that's strange, the cut and pasted URL doesn't work.  But if you Google ECHINODERM-L you will find it.

There is also a listserve for those interested in Crustacea - like crabs.
