Well, it seems nobody knew Mr. Schoerr. Â He was quite a collector. Â I am in possession of what remains of his collection - 100 boxes of museum quality shells. Â I am about 75% done with the inventory. Â Most have a slip of paper in them telling me what they are, where/when they were purchased, from whom and interesting facts (sometimes). Â I am at 1000 shells and counting. Â I would like to determine the value and find a potential buyer. Â Any interest?

That rather depends where you are, if you are in the U.K. then I may be interested. If you are elsewhere the cost of shipping would be prohibitive.

I will look into shipping and consolidating to save on costs. Â Will consider absorbing the cost of shipping - depending on final offer which is down the road in the discussion.
I live near Cincinnati, Ohio USA. |

Thanks for the information. Â I did underestimate the numbers. Â I have finished 42 boxes of 101, I believe, and have 2283 shells. Â The inventory is taking a very long time. Â Then I have to go back and fill a large memory stick with pictures! My hope was to sell as a package both for the integrity of the collection and the limited storage space that I have. Â Time will tell I suppose. Â Once I get the inventory done I will share it with you and all. Â What types are your favorites?

Hey there. I know how difficult it can be keeping inventory of a large collection. I inherited my grandmother's collection that she educated me with since I was 9 (I'm almost 24). Before we started selling it per shell, it was well over 4500 specimens. Right now I'm down to approximately 3000+ and I am in the process of re-cataloging into an easier system. It values over $24000. It really depends on the specimens you have (where they came from, grade, age, rarity...). I think you may have somewhat of hard time selling it all in one swoop, partly due to the cost of shipping. Most collectors are overseas. You could make a decent profit still by selling them one-by-one with your own website. I can give you some ideas on how to get a free website going like mine. You could attempt, once you are done logging them, to try selling it as a whole on ebay? You would really need to be descrïptive on the collection pieces because lots of buyers will be skeptical without individual pictures. If you would like some tips, feel free to email me: conniesshells@yahoo.com. If you just want some website ideas, check out my site: http://conniesshells.host22.com
Good Luck! A. Aurora p.s. I live in KY about 2hrs away. Maybe I could be interested in looking at a few of my fav species! |
