Snail ID Help!
It looks like a Potamididae. Probably genus Cerithidea. but without origin data it is hard to tell the specie. Pierre.

Snail ID Help!
Hi, Pierre! Thanks for the help. The specimen came from the coast of Bohol, Phillipines. It was the reef with probably depths of 10-12 meters. This is the only origin I can give as of now. Thanks a lot. Allan

Snail ID Help!
Hi, Dave! I'll try to upload the picture showing the aperture. I am finished isolating the genomic DNA and its 12S rRNA gene and hopefully we can submit it for sequencings and the scientific name will be known. Thanks again, Allan

Snail ID Help!
Its me again. But i still need your help. I looked at peirre's initial genus, I saw something like it. He is right! I hope you agree, too! Thanks a lot to both of you.
It will take a while before we can get the DNA sequence and help us ID this snail. But I am working on my paper using your initial genus. Thanks again. allan |

Re: Snail ID Help!
Hi Pierre and Dave,
I am having problem with transferring my old account. I registered again with my new username alh2. This is the aperture side and the dorsal side of the snail you identified as family Potamididea and genus Cerithidea. Hope you can help me with the species. Thanks. http://www.badongo.com/pic/10435155 http://www.badongo.com/pic/10435156 |

Re: Snail ID Help!
Hi Allan, difficult to see as the photo is very blurred but from what I can see of the aperture it may be a Cerithium, something like coralium.

Re: Snail ID Help!
Hi Allan, as I said it is a VERY blurred photo. I did say 'may be' but with out a better photo I can't say for sure. Quote me if you like but don't take as gospel my identification.
It was just the shape of the aperture and the colour &Â sculpture of the shell that made me think Cerithium. it still could be a Cerithidea. Dave |
