Father-in-Law just passed away - left shell collection - what to do?
So my Father-in-Law has quite a few shells that he has collected. I'm not sure what the family wants to do with them yet but they may end up wanting to sell them to help my Mother-in-Law be able to pay her bills. I don't think anyone here is attached to them particularly although certainly some of our kids are interested in some. Certainly none of us have any clue about what they are.
But can anyone here give pointers on the best course of action? Selling them on eBay or something seems like it would net the most money but it's also the most work unless it was done in one big lot. But I know selling in a lot would most likely bring in the least amount of cash too, right? I can post pics to give you an idea but I didn't know if that would be considered bad form since this isn't the "for sale" section. Thanks in advance for any help you can give! John |

Ok, I'm going to go ahead an put a few pics to give you an idea of what I'm talking about since there doesn't seem to be a lot of traffic here...
I just put my foot there to give a hint about the size of the shell. I wear a size 12 shoe... |

Is there another shell forum out there that has more traffic that might be able to answer my question or give suggestions.

Some of these shells are possibly on the CITES list which will make shipping to some countries illegal. The Golden Cowries pictured should be shiny and glossy, hopefully the dullness is only dust and a quick rinse in clean water will clean them up. Which country are you in? Perhaps Let's Talk Seashells! will be more help, The topic is discussed there. http://z14.invisionfree.com/Conchologist...e7&act=idx
