Pictue of shell
This appears to be a "frons oyster" or "coon oyster", scientific name Ostrea frons or Lopha frons, a common species from southern Florida south through the Caribbean. It lives attached to hard surfaces in shallow water, including wood, rocks, the stems of sea fans and sea whips, and the roots of mangroves. It is quite variable in shape, depending on what kind of surface it is growing on. --Last edited by Paul Monfils on 2009-04-19 02:49:24 --
