Book to ID shells
This is a good book with excellent plates but does not give the distribution of any of the species illustrated, only where the figured specimen is from. This is the only downside but a pretty big one. If you have a shell that comes close to matching a picture but comes from a different area it makes identification tricky. I can't understand why he did not at least give the region i.e. Indo-Pacific etc.
If you can find a second hand copy, as it is out of print, Dance and Abbot's 'Compendium of Seashells' is one of the best, or failing that Eddie Hardy's website 'gastropods.com' is a very good identification tool. Dave |
