More Hawaian shells
Pecten (Haumea) juddi

-3 Isognomon californicum

-5 Definitely not a Glycymeris! I was misled by the external view, which made the shell look round in outline and bilaterally symmetrical. The interior view clearly shows that it is neither. This is a Ctena species, in the family Lucinidae, probably Ctena bella.

Pretty beach worn, but based on the general shape, low spire, and suggestion of nodularity on the shoulder, and assuming it's a mature shell, not a juvenile of a larger species, and considering what is found in Hawaii, my best guess would be Conus abbreviatus.

Yes, looks to me like another Hipponix pilosus. When alive these are covered with a very dense bristly periostracum, hence the name "pilosus", meaning "hairy". --Last edited by Paul Monfils on 2010-04-19 00:50:25 --
