More Hawaian shells
Hello everybody!
I have had a lot of trouble with badongo (it is slow and I keep loosing the connection to the server when I am uploading), so I have created a blog on which to post the pictures of the unknown shells:

http://shellpictures.blogspot.com

1. Pecten from Hawai
2. Pteridae?
3. another view, same shell
4-5. Inside glycymeris from the other post on Hawaian shells. Is it glygymeris diomedea?
6. conus
7. is this Hipponix pilosus?

I'm still getting used to the technology of the blog, and I hope to improve.
Any suggestions will be, as always, greatfully received!

1 Pecten (Haumea) juddi

2-3 Isognomon californicum

4-5 Definitely not a Glycymeris! I was misled by the external view, which made the shell look round in outline and bilaterally symmetrical. The interior view clearly shows that it is neither. This is a Ctena species, in the family Lucinidae, probably Ctena bella.

6 Pretty beach worn, but based on the general shape, low spire, and suggestion of nodularity on the shoulder, and assuming it's a mature shell, not a juvenile of a larger species, and considering what is found in Hawaii, my best guess would be Conus abbreviatus.

7 Yes, looks to me like another Hipponix pilosus. When alive these are covered with a very dense bristly periostracum, hence the name "pilosus", meaning "hairy". --Last edited by Paul Monfils on 2010-04-19 00:50:25 --

Thank you Paul. By the way, have you any idea what the Murex is I posted last week. My best guess what that it is Thais Bronni, but to date nobody has been able to say. Any guesses?
