ID Help, please
Please help me to identify these shells.
<a href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805195" target="_blank"><!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805195">http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805195</a><!-- m --></a> <a href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805196" target="_blank"><!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805196">http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805196</a><!-- m --></a> I'm familiar with the scorpion conch, but these have many more spines radiating out. <a href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805196" target="_blank"><!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805196">http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805196</a><!-- m --></a> About 6 inches long. <a href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805199" target="_blank"><!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805199">http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805199</a><!-- m --></a> <a href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805200" target="_blank"><!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805200">http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805200</a><!-- m --></a> 3 inches long. Â Some type of auger? <a href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805201" target="_blank"><!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805201">http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805201</a><!-- m --></a> <a href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805202" target="_blank"><!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805202">http://www.badongo.com/pic/8805202</a><!-- m --></a> This shell is very beachworn. ID Help, please
The second one does not appear to be a Terebra, but a Turritella. I'm not sure of the species. It looks like it might be one of the European or West African ones.
The last one does look like it "used to be" a muricid. :-) Â No guess as to species. Â If you know where it was collected, a possble ID might come to mind. Â <span class="petit">--Last edited by Paul Monfils on 2010-02-17 16:34:14 --</span> |

#2 looks like Turritella leucostoma. The Murex looks like it was Phyllonotus regius or possibly erythrostoma. These wouldal both be from the Pacific side of Central America to California.

Hello The first photo should be Lambis millepeda, the second and third respectively Terebridae and perhaps one Spondylidae but for the species we have to wait other opinions
