Can't find one like it

This shell came from Myrtle beach, I know it has a small piece gone from the side but the lines start in the middle of the top of the shell. It is 3 1/2 cm.

3 1/2 cm??  or 3 1/2 mm?  It appears to be a Marginella, but there are no Marginella species in Florida that reach 3 1/2 cm. Actually it has quite a large piece missing, about half of a whorl.  <span class="petit">--Last edited by Paul Monfils on 2009-10-08 05:44:56 --</span>

It is mm.  My Ruler has it marked backwards, sorry.

Hi.  In that case it is pretty definitely an immature shell in the family Marginellidae.  I don't know what species.  It could be a small juvenile of Marginella apicinum.  Or perhaps one of several small whitish species found in Florida like M. bella or M. lavalleeana. If you post the picture on <a href="http://www.letstalkseashells.com" target="_blank"><!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.letstalkseashells.com">http://www.letstalkseashells.com</a><!-- m --></a> Marlo may be able to ID it. I believe Paul is correct that this is a <i>Marginella</i> and probably an unnamed <i>Gibberula </i>similar to <i>Gibberula lavalleeana</i>.  As Paul indicated your shell is very damaged missing a large part of the body whorl.

Sorry, but this is the only picture of your probably shell that I have.  The animal is still inside and covers the columella plaits visible in your shell.
