Very, very rarely, but netted olives from the Caribbean do more commonly. See Oliva reticularis form olorinela. If it is a lettered olive it will usually have a faint pattern or will be a pale yellowish colour. Where is it from?

A picture would be very useful if you could upload one. As they say; 'A picture paints a thousand words'.
Don't worry about being a newbie, we were all new to the hobby at one time!<img src="images/smiley/wink.gif" alt="" border="0" /> Dave |

britsnana,
It would be very helpful and save time if you would always give at least locality data and size of shell. Â Here's a white <i>Olivella</i> from Florida (Common name: Rice Olivella). Â There are others. <a href="http://z14.invisionfree.com/Conchologist_Forum/index.php?showtopic=1071" target="_blank"><!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://z14.invisionfree.com/Conchologist_Forum/index.php?showtopic=1071">http://z14.invisionfree.com/Conchologis ... topic=1071</a><!-- m --></a> To post pictures right here in you post see instructions at (Method #1): <a href="http://z14.invisionfree.com/Conchologist_Forum/index.php?showtopic=27" target="_blank"><!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://z14.invisionfree.com/Conchologist_Forum/index.php?showtopic=27">http://z14.invisionfree.com/Conchologis ... owtopic=27</a><!-- m --></a> |

I think your ones are just old and bleached by the sun I am afraid. Most of them look like the Purple Dwarf Olive (Olivella biplicata) and they should be quite glossy with an apex that goes to a point. Those in your picture look to have the apex eroded to a flat or open hole. Google them up or go to gastropods .com and see what fresh ones look like.

There is a picture of a 1/2 albino shell. Â Out of the 100 or so I have found (only nice quality ones pictured here) there has been .5 albino. They are pretty rare. |
