ID help - mark - 03-20-2010

Dear All,

Can you help me please?
I get some new shells. They said these are from Tanzania.

1. Vasum rhinoceros ?

Hi,
1- no idea

2- no idea

3- Left2Right : C. lividus, perhaps C. sanguinolentus, C.lividus, C. tessulatus, C. lividus, C ebraeus.

4- Cypraea carneola & annulus

5- Fasciolaria trapezium

6- Nassarius arcularius (both)

7- no idea

8- Strombus gibberulus (two) and S. mutabilis

9- perhaps Turbo setosus (worn++)

Size and locality data could help.

Thanks Pierre. I inserted the sizes. They are fom Tanzania (reputely).

Paul, Thanks for the correction. I don't know what I made wrong. I think use the old method next time.

Hi Mark,
I simplified your links to make them easier to open.  However, I then read your message that you had inserted the sizes of the shells.  Sorry, it looks like I removed that information when I reposted the URL's.  Could you list the sizes again as a new message?

I'm not aware of any post of yours being deleted.  I don't see one from February, but there are a couple in January, which are on page 2.

Shell# 1 is Vasum rhinoceros.  #2 is probably Clypeomorus subbrevicula.

Hello Paul,

No problem <img src="images/smiley/smile.gif" alt="" border="0" />, the sizes:

1. from 4,2 cm to 5,8 cm
2. about 2,5 cm
3. from 2 cm to 4 cm
4. 2,3 and 3,1 cm
5. 12 cm
6. about 2-2,5 cm
7. 5,5 cm
8. 3-4 cm
9. about 2,5 cm

I hoped there are more new species <img src="images/smiley/smile.gif" alt="" border="0" />

The missing post contains Strombus sp., Busycon sp. and Oliva sp.
(maybe Carribean shells) Sorry but I can't remember when posted them (my February was terrible)
