It looks like a shell plate from a chiton.  To verify, and possibly identify the species, could you provide its size and the locality where it was collected?  And if possible, a view of the opposite side?

You are so right....talked to one of the natives and they called it "crebs" or "krebs", but it is definitely a section from a chiton.  Thanks
