Hi everyone, help me with this species - rafael picardal - 10-01-2008

Good day luigi_67!

In my opinion the 2nd and 3rd picture is not in the family of Olive shells, it is in a Cypraea family maybe it is a juvenile Cypraea eglantina.

But please do correct me if I'm wrong. :-)

Cheers!

Happy Shelling!
Raffy

Hi everyone, help me with this species - dave r - 10-01-2008

Hi Luigi, yes, the 'Olives' are juvenile cowries but not eglantina as this does not occur in the Caribbean. They look to me to be C. zebra as is the other cowry picture. Not sure about the cone, possibly a form of centurio or even amphiurgus?
Dave

Hi everyone, help me with this species - david touitou - 10-02-2008

Hello,

I confirm that the cowrie is "zebra family" . It's a juvenile without the final spotting. I would say Cypraea zebra. I saw same specimens in Martinique. I don' know for the cone shell.

All the best,
DAVID --Last edited by David Touitou on 2008-10-03 07:13:34 --

Hi everyone, help me with this species - paul - 10-26-2008

The shell on top seems to me a juvenile of Conus ermineus (syn. = Conus testudinarius).

Best regards,

Paul

Hi everyone, help me with this species - tigris - 12-22-2008

hello, Luigi,

the photo below is almost deffiniately a Macrocypraea zebra, because it's shape is intermediate between cervinetta and cervus. however, cervinetta is found only at pacific side. so it is a zebra. the juvenile cypraea can also be cervus, or zebra, it is just very hard to say, but my opinion says zebra.

regards,
Jeroen
