Unknown SC murex - chromodoris - 03-28-2008 Hey fellow shell collectors! Does anyone recognize this murex. Â It was taken off of Charleston, SC and is ~15mm. Â It reminds me of a Pterynotus or Pteropurpura bequaerti. Â Cool stuff and this guy is in fairly good condition. Â Â --Last edited by Chromodoris on 2008-03-28 05:20:46 -- Unknown SC murex - dave r - 03-30-2008 It could be bequaerti but to me it looks more like Pterynotus phaneus (Dall 1889), both are very rare so an excellent find either way. Â Dave Unknown SC murex - chromodoris - 03-30-2008 thanks alot... I compared it to P. phaneus online and it appears similar. Â Just how rare are these? Â This one has no operculum but appears to have no major defects or chips. Â This is uncleaned so some bleach solution could get it nice and white. Â --Last edited by Chromodoris on 2008-03-30 03:06:02 -- Unknown SC murex - dave r - 03-30-2008 As rare as rocking horse droppings! If you go to Eddy Hardy's website and find the Murex pages you will see a picture of my P.phaneus. Dave |
