Kauai Conus - chromodoris - 03-28-2008 These cones were taken under coral rubble in Kauai. Â The smaller one was crabbed but the larger one (~40mm) was taken alive and is in great condition. Â I labeled them as C. pennaceus but I've seen various other names out there (C. espiscopus, C. magnificus, etc.) Â Is the Hawaiian species C. pennaceus? <img src="http://shutter07.pictures.aol.com/data/pictures/16/002/4B/ED/F4/3A/EjZTBmKQ+UA6B4IKl6NlkpyzjxcW4o3b0300.jpg" alt="http://shutter07.pictures.aol.com/data/pictures/16/002/4B/ED/F4/3A/EjZTBmKQ+UA6B4IKl6NlkpyzjxcW4o3b0300.jpg" style="border:0" /> Kauai Conus - dave r - 03-30-2008 Yes, they are Conus pennaceus. Conus episcopatus and magnificus do not occur in Hawaii. Conus episcopus is a form of pennaceus that lives only in Mauritius. Dave |
