I am looking to id a shell we find while on a cruise to the caribean.  it is clam like, about 2 inches by 1 inch. It is a translucent milky white witha "sunburst" pattern of yellow alternating to orange/pink from it's hinge point.  Thank you for your help to ID this shell

Sounds like a Sunrise Tellin, Tellina radiata. Compare it to these pictures:

<a href="" target="_blank"><!-- m --><a class="postlink" href=""> ... tellin.htm</a><!-- m --></a>

<a href="" target="_blank"><!-- m --><a class="postlink" href=""></a><!-- m --></a>

If that isn't it I'll try to think of something else that fits.  <span class="petit">--Last edited by Paul Monfils on 2007-11-13 06:22:55 --</span>
