Hello,

As a newbie i started my shell collection.
Recently i found this shell in the waters of CORSE (france),

Can you please help me to identify this huge (28cm) shell.

newbie question - paul monfils - 07-15-2007

This is a Pen Shell, family Pinnidae. Your specimen appears to be a young specimen of Pinna nobilis, the Noble Pen Shell. Although you described your shell as "huge", this is actually a small specimen of this species, which can reach 80 cm in length.  <span class="petit">--Last edited by Paul Monfils on 2007-07-16 04:04:14 --</span>
