I found it in west palm beach florida. i have no idea what it could be! tiny shell that opens to the left, no idea what it is - paul monfils - 07-09-2007 Sounds like it is a juvenile lightning whelk (Busycon sinistrum or Busycon contrarium - there is some discussion regarding the proper name). They start life a lot smaller than an inch, only a few millimeters in length.
