oxymeris maculatus confirmation - underwaterdream - 07-08-2013

Dear all,

I am almost sure that this is an oxymeris maculatus. Only the color seems unusual.
Are they various forms of maculatus or this is just a color variation.
Does someone knows how common is this color variation ?

Many questions :o , thanks for any help

Yes, this is Oxymeris maculatus. The rusty color is due to mineral staining. It occurs on many kinds of shells which live on iron-rich sediment, especially those which burrow in it.
