Meretrix lyrata? - Emma - 01-31-2013

Hi!

I got these shells in the frozen fish section of my local supermarket. I was wondering if they were Meretrix meretrix or meretrix lyrata. Any help is very much appreciated! Wink
Thanks!

Emma.

Hi Emma. With those ribs they will be Meretrix lyrata. All the others of the genus are smooth.

Thanks Dave! I thought they probably were, but I wasn't sure.

You are always welcome Emma. They are farmed commercially and shipped all over the world. Mine came from Washington!
