Are these turrids? - wateryworld - 04-29-2012 I'd like to know if these are turrids, the smaller one possibly being turricula coreanica or gemmula cosmoi, the larger one unknown. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! http://www.flickr.com/photos/wateryworl ... hotostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/wateryworl ... hotostream Re: Are these turrids? - paul monfils - 04-29-2012 Yes they are turrids. The larger one looks like Gemmula deshayesi. I'd say Turricula coreanica is a pretty good guess on the smaller (and immature) shell, but I'm not sure. It definitely is not G. cosmoi. Re: Are these turrids? - wateryworld - 04-29-2012 Thanks a bunch, Paul Re: Are these turrids? - wateryworld - 04-30-2012 Okay, a question about the coreanica - looking it up a bit, it appears that this shell was recently promoted from being a subspecies of turrid to its own family, Clavatulidae, and renamed "Makiyamaia coreanica". Thoughts on this change? |
