Is this Muricidae? - Emma - 03-16-2012

Hello!

Does anybody know if the shell below is from the Muricidae family? And if so, which shell it is?

Thanks,

Emma.

Yes, it is Muricidae, but a positive ID without locality data could be difficult.  There are a number of small muricids more or less similar to this, and this specimen looks quite worn.  It could be Ocenebra erinaceus from the Mediterranean.
