A question about Natica tigrina distribution? - Emma - 03-04-2012

Hello,

A Bangladeshi man recently gave me a Natica tigrina which he says is from Bangladesh, is this possible? He also gave me a C. eglantina, supposedly also from the same location. Does anybody know?

Many thanks,

Emma.

Though I have never seen a specimen from Bangladesh, I have seen specimens from both India and Thailand.  Since Bangladesh is between India and Thailand, it would be reasonable to expect that the species occurs there.  I have never heard of Cypraea eglantina occurring in the northern Indian Ocean.  Are you sure it is eglantina and not grayana?

Thanks Paul! I'm pretty sure it's an eglantina, as it is elongate and nothing like the grayana I have. I'll have to post a picture and see what other people think.

Best wishes,

Emma.
