please help me identify 9 species - ErwinB - 10-31-2011 Being a beginner, I need some help on identification of a few species. I don't know where they came from. I know they no longer have scientific value because of this, but I still like them in my collection. At least untill I can replace them some day. Here are some pictures I took. Any help would be appreciated! I'll try to name your seashells, #1. Pleuroploca trapezium (Trapezium Horse Conch) in FASCIOLARIIDAE family. #2. Strombus pugilis pugilis (West Indian Fighting Conch) STROMBIDAE family. #3. Pseudovertagus aluco (Cuming's Cerith) CERITHIIDAE family. #4. Canarium urceus urceus (Little Bear Conhc) STROMBIDAE family. #5. Lentigo lentiginosus (Freckled Conch) STROMBIDAE. #6. Canarium labiatum labiatum (Samar Conch) STROMBIDAE. #7. Euprotomus bulla (Bubble Conch) STROMBIDAE. #8. Cymbiola (Cymbiola) vespertilio matiyensis VOLUTIDAE family. #9.Rhinoclavis (Rhinoclavis) vertagus (Ribbon Cerith) CERITHIIDAE family. This are the best i can figure. Diocris. Re: please help me identify 9 species - dave r - 11-01-2011 I would say #7 is E. aurisdianae, but I agree with all the others.. Re: please help me identify 9 species - ErwinB - 11-01-2011 Hello Diocris and Dave, I looked them up on pictures and they look very much like my photographes. Thank you very very very very very much :-) Another question. How did you find them so quickly? Is it experience or do you have some kind of determination reference? Best regards, Erwin Re: please help me identify 9 species - diocrisseashells1000 - 11-01-2011 Hi Erwin, There is a place here in this site on where to look for : SEASHELL IDENTIFICATION Subforum. just click the ( more stat ) and you will find it. Thank sir Dave on #7 corrections, Diocris. Re: please help me identify 9 species - Marlo9 - 11-01-2011 I suspect #2 may be Strombus alatus rather than pugilis. See http://z14.invisionfree.com/Conchologist_Forum/index.php?showtopic=1208 Re: please help me identify 9 species - dave r - 11-02-2011 Marlo, by the criteria set out in the article it would be pugilis. Re: please help me identify 9 species - diocrisseashells1000 - 11-02-2011 Maybe this link will provide some information regarding pugilis, i hope you have some extra time to read it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strombus_pugilis i just want to thank wikipedia for their great websites. Re: please help me identify 9 species - Ignacio March - 11-03-2011 Number 1 . Pleuroploca trapecium (Fasciolariidae) Number 8 Cymbiola vespertilio (Volutidae). Greetings, Ignacio March Re: please help me identify 9 species - Bart - 11-03-2011 I agree with Dave that number 7 is Strombus aurisdianae L. (though a slightly juvenile specimen) |
