cassidae ? - conchylinet - 09-05-2011

Hello
Can somebody help in identifying the shell below ? It is from Mauritius and measures 22mm. My first guess is a juvenile Cassidae but I cant find the specie.
Thanks
Pierre

Hi Pierre,

Maybe it's a juvenile Semicassis bisulcata. What do you think? I think the location might fit. Of course, it is hard to tell because the lip is inmature. I'm looking forward to your input.

Best wishes,

Emma.

Thanks Emma, bisulcata is a possibility but it seems uncommon in Mauritius. A Casmaria can do it aswell.
Well, perhaps it's too immature to sort it out.
Pierre

Yes, I agree, it might well be Casmaria, but as you say, it is difficult to tell because of the lip. However, the colour and the markings do point to your suggestion.

Best wishes,

Emma.
