Re: 10 specie of neritidae - conchylinet - 09-01-2011 6 and 8 seem to be N. albicilla. I have never seen the others. Pierre. Re: 10 specie of neritidae - diocrisseashells1000 - 09-02-2011 Hi Pierre, thanks for your confirmation on # 8, i have some doubts about it if it is really nerita albicilla, i have 2 look alike of this specie very similar in features, and i have lots of nerita albicilla as seen in many references, that is why i didnt consider it as n.albicilla. #6 it seems really like n.albicilla too except it has uncommon submerge apex... perhaps it is a freak specie of n.albicilla, would you agree ? cheers, Diocris. Re: 10 specie of neritidae - paul monfils - 09-03-2011 1. Nerita polita 2. Nerita chamaeleon ? 3. either Septaria porcellana, or a Clypeolum species 4. Neritina powisiana (the little upturned protrusion near the apex is characteristic of this species) 5. Looks like Clithon leachii 6. probably Nerita albicilla, though it looks somewhat deformed 7. This may be a member of the family Neritiliidae, perhaps Pisulina maxima, though it is a little large for that species. The only other possibility I can think of would be an immature albinistic Clithon oualaniensis. 8. Nerita albicilla 9. Clithon corona 10. This has the shape of Clithon chlorostomus. I have never seen one with this color or pattern, but of course many nerites occurs in a wide range of colors and patterns. Re: 10 specie of neritidae - dave r - 09-03-2011 #6 looks like a very worn N. planospira and #10 looks like Neritina waigiensis. Re: 10 specie of neritidae - diocrisseashells1000 - 09-03-2011 Hello Dave & Paul, its getting more difficult on how to identify the species that i've post, so i've search harder for this topic , i concentrate on the one link that i found on the web. and this is my finding and i need your confirmation on this, please do so. # 3 : Neripteron bicanaliculatum Recluz,1843 Ref : http://neritopsine.lifedesks.org/node/538 # 4 : neritina porcata (Gould,1847) ref.: http://neritopsine.lifedesks.org/node/392 # 5 : Clithon retropictus (von Martens, 1879) ref.: http://neritopsine.lifedesks.org/node/650 # 9 : Clithon olivaceus (Recluz, 1843). ref.: http://neritopsine.lifedesks.org/node/642 #10: Clithon oualeniensis ref.: http://neritopsine.lifedesks.org/node/965 # 7: this one still a puzzle to me, i doubt pisulina maxima, the specie that i post has a bulk body and has a pale apple green color w/ whitish band on the body.i may consider it as neritiliidae for now cause only few specie has been identify. but i have one link that i see that somehow ressemble this specie. ref.: http://neritopsine.lifedesks.org/node/706 i just want to thank neriptopsine.lifedesks.org. cause im using their links. Many thanks, Diocris. Re: 10 specie of neritidae - dave r - 09-04-2011 I would tend to agree except for #10. Clithon oulaniensis has a much flatter spire and is a more globose shape. I still go with waigiensis which is variable to the extreme.. Re: 10 specie of neritidae - diocrisseashells1000 - 09-04-2011 Hello Sir Dave, I am still not convince it is N.waigiensis,The size is not the same, the one i post is only 7 mm. N.waigiensis is 10 mm. - 20 mm. much larger than my shell. As i compared it in my waigiensis collection, this one is very small in size. cheers, Diocris. Re: 10 specie of neritidae - paul monfils - 09-05-2011 I agree with Dave. The color pattern on your shell is completely typical of N. waigiensis. The only reason I didn't call it that initially was the the prominence of the spire. In adult N. waigiensis, the spire pretty much blends smoothly into the body whorl, and is not set off sharply. But your shell is not an adult specimen, as indicated by the small size. The size is not an issue in species identification. All of them are only a couple of millimeters, sometimes less, when originally hatched Re: 10 specie of neritidae - diocrisseashells1000 - 09-05-2011 Very well then, i will consider your identification final. Many thanks Sir Dave & Sir Paul, Diocris. |
