help identify - Robert Lance - 07-10-2014

Hi

Please could you help identify this.

We picked it up on the beach at Stilbaai, South Africa.

It is about 10cm by 14 cm.

Thanks
Robert

This is Argonauta argo.  This is not a true shell, but actually an egg case or brood chamber of an octopus-like animal. It is often referred to as a "paper nautilus"  You can get more information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argonaut_(animal)
