If you got a specimen which having a few noticeable nicks on the edge of lip, do you mind to file it? or you would like to keep it as is, even it was less beautiful to display.

What exactly collector collects, the sample of species or the beauty of shells.  <img src="images/smiley/smile.gif" alt="" border="0" />

Hi, You do have collectors who like filed lips, but it is my experience that most collectors do'nt like filed lips. Anyhow, as a dealer it is best not to file the lips and leave that choice to the client.  Of course always carefully describe the shell esp the defects like a chip in the lip.  Also if the lip is filed you should mention that.

The closest to the natural way the better. However in some cases and when you have something that justifies, and the job is well done thats o.k.

One of the families that i collect are Volutidae , so you can imagine that would be almost impossible to get a Scaphella junonia or a butleri . I did it with a dubia kieneri, 100% natural but that was a rare chance.

So, in my oppinion they are just as valid as a non filed, but i always choose the natural one when i have the choice to do it.

Do not worry about the display , and remember that nothing it is perfect even in nature.

Kind regards

My own preference is to keep them exactly as I found them. I feel like filing down any part of it detracts from it's beauty.
