Hi, wateryworld,
true enough, it's sad that so many books are rather old and/or out of print :Smile. So you have to look for some antiquarian booksellers, unfortunately.
On the other hand, there are several new books and papers dealing with special families or regions.
Some years ago I got some material from the east and west coast of America; rather old and out of print, but (at least for me) helpful were:

MORRIS, P.A.: A Field Guide to the Shells of our Atlantic und Gulf Coasts  --  Roger Tory Peterson´s Field Guide Series; Houghton Mifflin Company Boston, MA; 2th revised edition, 1951

MORRIS, P.A.: A Field Guide to Shells of the Pacific Coast and Hawaii  --  The Peterson Field Guide Series. Houghton Mifflin Comp. Boston - The Riverside Press Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1952

The problem remains that meanwhile some synonyms have been cleared, some families have changed and so on. I know, it's hell of a job.....  :Smile. I never promised you a rose garden........  Wink.

Kind regards: wolf
