Hello collectors,

i just finish updating my conus collections and started updating the specie names of my Murex collections using the Gastropod.com as the main reference. But i just found out that this murex (nigrispinosus, Reeve, 1845) is not on the list...so i look on the same features of the specie and found it on M.ternispina, Lamarck, 1822.
i just want to ask is which is which? are they the same or are they different species? Is the book that we use as reference in 90's no longer be use as a guide to name the specie at present ? I am quite confused....and disapointed...

Hope to recieved a very best explanations on this confusing identity.

Diocris.
Hi Diocris, nigrispinosa is a junior synonym for ternispina. So ternispina is now the name to be used.

Hi Diocris,

You can use the " World Register of Marine Species "

Kind regards,
